Huge weekend offensively for Shield

The Shield took both of their games over the weekend accumulating an amazing 26 goals for and only 5 against. The wins also made in another five in a row, completing their second 5 game win streak in only 13 games so far this season. Two notable Shield players not in the line-up this weekend were forwards Dylan Sontag and Troy Storm. Both were in New York competing for the GMHL all-star team against three Division III schools including Plattsburg, Potsdam, and Utica.

Friday night the Shield hosted the Espanola Kings and took the win rather convincingly. The Kings managed to keep it close for a short period as they only allowed 2 goals in the first 20 minutes of play. However the Shield hit their swing just over halfway through the second scoring 4 goals in under 5 minutes to end the second. Heading into the third the score was 7-1 in favour of the Shield and it didn't get much better for the Kings as the Shield scored another 3 goals to the Kings 2 in the third.

The Final score was 10-3 for the Shield with John Thomson getting the win. Big scorers for the Shield were Rob Childs with 3G, 2A for 5 points and Adam McBeth with 1G, 3A for 4 points.

Saturdat the Shield travelled to Tamworth to take on the Cyclones. After suffering some bus issues the game, origianlly scheduled for an 8:00 PM start, didn't get underway until after 9:00 PM. The Shield dominated this game the whole way through scoring 4 in the first, 5 in the second and another 7 in the third. Only two shots made it past goaltender Eric Pye to make the final score 16-2 for the Shield.

Big scorers for the Shield on saturday were Derek Rodgers with 3G,5A for 8 points and Chad Meagher with 2G, 2A for 4 points.

The Shield Will look to continue their winning streak this weekend as they face the Toronto Canada Moose at home Friday night. Game time 7:30 PM at the Gravenhurst Centennial Center. Then on Saturday the Shield will make a trip north to Ville-Marie and 'la belle province' to face the dragons for their second meeting in three weeks.
