The Shield Take First Round Bye In Playoffs

This morning the GMHL went through the first round selection process of the 2008 GMHL playoffs. When it came time for Shield General Manager Gord Carey to make a decision he elected to take the last remaining bye.

The complete selection process went as follows...

The 1st place Bradford Rattlers selected the 11th place Toronto Canada Moose,
the 2nd place Temiscaming Royals selected the 9th place Espanola Kings,
the 3rd place Innisfil Lakers took a bye,
the 4th place Deseronto Storm selected the 10th place Tamworth Cyclones,
the 5th place Elliot Lake Bobcats selected the 12th place Nipissing Alouettes,
the 6th place Richmond Hill Rams took a bye,
the 7th place South Muskoka Shield took a bye,
which left the 8th place King Wild playing the 13th place Douro Dukes.

The five first round series have until March 1st to finish their best-of-7 series giving the Shield nearly a two week break in which to prepare for the second round of the GMHL playoffs.
