Shield get big regulation win Vs. Babcats
October 14 , 2008

After breaking a 3 game losing streak in Friday night the Shield were in tough against the North Division leading Elliot Lake Bobcats.

The first period of play was very back and forth as both team didn't seem to want to give up any ground. Sophmore goaltender Eric Pye got his third straight start versus the Bobcats as it would appear he is well on his way to solidifying his spot as the Shield's number 1 goaltender. The Bobcats opened the scoring with 5:03 left in the first period as forward Cooper Limb put one past Pye to make the score 1-0 for the Bobcats heading into the second period.

The second period was more of the same as the chances were limited and the play was mainly focused in the neutral zone. The Bobcats seemed confident as they took a 2-0 lead with Drew Scannella beating Pye with 7:35 left in the period. It seemed the Bobcats lead would carry into the final frame but the Shield came alive at the end of the second coming off of a big penalty kill as the speedy Travis Saltz chased down a loose puck in the corner and centered a pass which was directed past Bobcats goalie Shane Buckley by Dylan Sontag.

The Shield carried the momentum from the late goal in the second into the third as Shield forward Ricky Greenslade banged in a loose puck to tie the game halfway through the third period. The second half of the final frame was filled with end to end action as both teams were looking for that one goal that would give them a regulation win. Shield goaltender Pye stood on his head making an absolutely phenominal pad save as the Shield kill off a late penalty with under 2 minutes to go. Less than a minute after Pye's game saving leg kick Chad Meagher made a great effort to chip the puck up to Livonia, Michigan native Troy Storm who flew down the wing and blew a quick snap shot through the five-hole of Shane Buckley with only 55 seconds remaining in the game.

The regulation win was huuge for the Shield as they didn't give up that 1 point to the Bobcats, who are ahead of them in the standings, which could come back and hurt them later in the season.

Next Friday the Shield host the Espanola Kings, game time 7:30 PM, at the Gravenhurst Centennial Center before heading to Tamworth for a saturday road game versus the cyclones.
