South Muskoka Shield Hockey Team is part of the newest
game in town - the Greater Metro Jr.A Hockey League - and our goal
is to raise the standards of Jr.A hockey in Ontario |
| About
the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) |
 |
Founded
in 2006, the league offers a proven organizational structure,
with a fully staffed head office complete with Commissioner,
President, Treasurer and Referee in Chief. The league will also
supply an experienced specialist who will market players in
local, national and international leagues. |

Focusing
on the player, it is the league’s aim to promote, develop
and market players to Division I and Division III U.S. college
hockey scholarship and Ontario Hockey League opportunities. |

No
discrimination by nationality – new import rules allow
Canadian, American and European players. |
 |
Roster
limits: Five 15 year old players; eight twenty year olds; and
a balance of 16 to 19 year olds to a total roster of 25 players. |
 |
Increased
minimum practice times of three sessions per week to raise the
level of training, development and calibre of play. |
 |
Annual
College travelling teams and All-Star Games designed to highlight
player achievement. |

Founded
in 2006 by John Klinck, a local businessman and current Mayor
of Gravenhurst, the Club’s vision is to provide youth,
from within and beyond the community, with opportunities through
hockey to learn, grow and achieve their full potential. |

The
Shield is a community-based franchise committed to providing
South Muskoka with great entertainment. |
 |
Twenty-one
founding corporate sponsors, many of which are household names
with strong brand recognition throughout North America, will
provide the franchise with the seed capital required, and financial
stability to maintain the Club’s presence and operations. |
 |
Community
groups will benefit by aligning themselves with these founding
corporate sponsors thus allowing them to raise funds for both
the Club and their charitable endeavours. |

Provide
founding corporate sponsors with a means to promote their products
and services in a meaningful way for the community and provide
players with an opportunity to obtain employment with these
sponsors. |

franchise serves the greater South Muskoka area including Gravenhurst,
Bracebridge, Port Carling, Bala as well as the North Simcoe
region |

The
team name – The Shield -- symbolizes the strength and
vitality of the Precambrian shield that is prevalent throughout
our region. |

The
team colours – Red, Black, White and Grey -- are derived
from the colours used by the minor hockey organizations within
our market area. |
 |
On
ice personnel to consist of a coach, two assistant coaches and
a trainer. |
 |
Team
doctor, dentist, out-of-town billeting and educational liaison
personnel in place |
